Reasons You Should Make a Chiropractor Your Primary Care Physician

I know that for many people, that headline is going to make them scratch their heads and say "Huh" That is an expected reaction, because often when you mention "chiropractor", the only things that come to mind for many people are back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, headaches OR Scary, I will NEVER get my neck cracked!

Both reactions are too bad because it shows just what a horrible job we have done (chiropractors, I mean) explaining to the public our philosophy, our science, our safety, and they myriad of things we can help with other than pain.

There is something of a healthcare crisis going on in the U.S. right now, have you noticed Insurance premiums are through the roof, people cannot afford insurance or they cannot afford to get sick (before the downturn in the economy, illness costs in insured individuals accounted for 50% of all personal bankruptcies), medical doctors are leaving the profession in droves and there are not enough students in med school to replace them. So as a chiropractor, I am standing up and saying "We can help! We can handle the "lifestyle" diseases. We can help ease the burden on the healthcare system by letting people know what we do!"

So in no particular order, here are the reasons you should consider making a chiropractor your primary care physician.

The Nervous System controls and coordinates ALL functions of your body - This is basic anatomy, and it always amazes me how many "health care providers" forget this most simple tenet. We all know it is true. We have seen what happens when someone breaks their neck and nothing works below it. The brain is the source of all energy transmissions to every cell of your body. It sends those messages down the spinal cord and out nerves that pass between each vertebrae of the spine. If the vertebrae are misaligned, and the electrical impulses of the brain can't reach the cells, the cells are sick. Lots of sick cells make a sick person. Chiropractors adjust the spine to restore the flow of energy from the brain to the cells. That is often all someone needs for miraculous changes in their health.

Chiropractors do not prescribe medications - This is important in a primary care physician as a first level of defense. If someone comes into my office with high blood pressure, I do not want to immediately put them on high blood pressure medications because then I would be compromising their kidney function. Because chiropractors do not prescribe medications, we are extremely educated in nutrition and lifestyle changes that can help. If your blood pressure is high but does not require hospitalization, there are some simple changes you can make that would lower it over a 30 day period. That is the true meaning of "health care" in my opinion. Give a chiropractor one to three months to manage a condition. If there has not been a significant change at that point, then go see a medical doctor.

Chiropractors are able to order most standard blood tests - And we know how to interpret the results as well. Combine that with the above point, that we do not prescribe medications, and you have a health expert who can work with you to determine your health concerns and give you workable, real life solution.

Chiropractic Adjustments have been proven to boost the immune system - This is tied to the first point, that the nervous system controls and coordinates all your functions, but it's worth its own paragraph. If your immune system is strong, you will not need doctors as often. That is just the way it is. You will also be able to handle any viruses or bacteria you are exposed to quickly and easily. Ask any chiropractor or chiropractor's family how often they get sick. They will tell you not very, and when they do, they beat it quickly. It is true in my home and in those of the other chiropractors I know. It is true for our patients, too.

I hope these four points will have you look at your health a little differently, and inspire you to think about our "healthcare system" in a new light. A chiropractor is truly a health care provider, in contrast to the many illness care providers that bog down our system. If we can get more people to chiropractors for health care, we can free up the illness providers to handle those sick people who really need them.

So please, go see a chiropractor. You'll be glad you did.

Chiropractor In Lawrenceville Ga Can Help With Your Back Pain
Data shows that around 80% of the adult population is affected by back pain at some point in life, and close to half the people with active work lives are affected by back pain each year chiropractic marketing strategy. In fact, back pain is one of the biggest reasons for people not going to work.

An increasing number of professionals from the mainstream medical fraternity are now recommending chiropractic care to their patients when it comes to addressing back pain, and this is not without reason. A chiropractor can help with back pain that is caused due to various reasons, some of which include sports injuries, accidents, slipped discs, strained muscles, poor posture, obesity, and scoliosis.

In addressing back pain a chiropractor could use different techniques depending on the source of the problem which is identified before the treatment can actually begin. Chiropractic care uses a hands-on approach in addressing back pain, without the use of drugs or invasive surgery. Some of the common methods that a chiropractor would use in helping you with your back pain include:

Here, pressure is applied to the vertebra responsible for the discomfort with the aim of improving its functionality, while also relieving irritability in the nerves. This helps in restoring/improving the backs mobility. Amidst the various chiropractic techniques used to address back pain, this is amongst the most commonly used.

This technique is used in cases when the back pain is due to contact between a disc and a nerve. In this technique, a chiropractor would place cushioned wedges under your pelvic region and use gentle maneuvers in order to create distance between the disc and the nerve.

This technique is commonly used in addressing symptomatic injuries to the disc. Here, a chiropractor would use a specialized table which works by stretching your spine, and this gives your chiropractor the ability to isolate the affected area, while also concurrently flexing your spine gently.

There are other ways that a chiropractor could suggest which would help you find relief from your back pain. These can include making some lifestyle changes, getting on healthy diets, charting out exercise plans, using massage therapy, etc.

If you are someone who has not found relief from back pain despite having tried different things, then consulting a chiropractor could very well do the trick. If you are looking for a good Chiropractor in Lawrenceville GA, remember that you do have options.

    Stroke and Chiropractors

In the early morning hours of a cold day in November of last year, I woke up to use the bathroom and promptly fell to the floor, waking my wife. Several hours later, doctors were explaining details of the stroke I had in my sleep.

I could not speak or move anything on the right half of my body and I was very frustrated because no one could tell me what caused the brain attack or what to expect for the future. I was not in the best shape in the world but, still, I didn't expect this at the age of 42.

It is almost a year later and I am very fortunate to have had a remarkable recovery. I can speak and get around fairly well and, if someone didn't tell, you would probably have a hard time knowing that there was anything wrong with me.

I am very thankful to God that, with a lot of hard work and some very good doctors and therapists, I am able to live at the level I do-- going back to work and doing most everything I did before, albeit not as well as I did.

I did a lot of research on my condition during my recovery and, in the Spring, stumbled upon a study claiming that people, under the age of 50, that had been receiving chiropractic treatment, specifically neck adjustments, were 8-10 times more likely to have a stroke.

I had been visiting the chiropractor for several months for upper back and neck pain and had a neck adjustment a few days before my event. Could this have had something to do with my stroke Is that why, after hearing of my condition, I never heard from that doctor's office again

The purpose of this lens is two-fold.

To collect information from other stroke survivors that had been receiving similar treatment and offer support and understanding to each other and...

To inform individuals considering chiropractic treatment of the possible consequences of some of the procedures.

If you are one of those people or know one, please look into this information and sign our guestbook.

    Thanks.

How you can help fight Chiropractic Quackery

Together, we can spread the word!

#1 -- Email this lens to a friend, vote on this lens, or leave comments in our guestbook (below).

#2 -- Post VIDEOS on Youtube.
Until recently, Youtube was totally overrun with chiropractic quackery. This gave a false sense of legitimacy to pseudoscience and put patients and students at risk.

Please continue to post news segments (if you have permission) about injured chiropractic patients, chiropractic student loan defaults, chiropractors getting arrested for fraud advertising, etc.

And if you have video production skills, consider creating a short video. It can even be just a "slideshow" with research, facts, or links to where consumers can go for more information. If you need links to research to back-up what you say, please email me and I will be glad to help.

Your efforts could help prevent someone getting swindled by a chiropractor or even having a stroke from an unnecessary manipulation. Thanks!

    Chiropractic Sciatica Treatment

Sciatica pain is pain in the sciatic nerve, the longest and thickest nerve in the human body. This nerve runs from the lower back down through both legs. When the nerve is pinched or inflamed, a person can experience severe pain. The "Journal of the American Chiropractic Association" says a substantial number of chiropractic patients complain of sciatica pain. Untreated sciatica can lead to decreased muscle strength, decreased muscle size and problems with walking. Chiropractors use a variety of treatment for sciatica pain.

A spinal adjustment is a type of procedure a chiropractor uses to correct misaligned vertebrae that often contribute to the inflammation and pain caused by sciatica. Chiropractic care is usually centered around spinal adjustments. The patient lies on a special table that can rotate up and down, and the chiropractor applies both strong and gentle thrusts and pressure to the spine. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce pressure on the sciatic nerve and improve spinal function while reducing the pain caused by inflammation.

TENS unit sends mild electrical currents to the painful area through electrode patches. The doctor can adjust the current's intensity according to the pain level.

TENS is a painless procedure that can reduce swelling and spasms because it helps the body to produce more endorphins, which are natural pain relievers in the body. There are small, portable

Ultrasound treatment increases blood circulation, which helps with the pain, swelling and inflammation caused by sciatica. With ultrasound treatment, high-frequency sound waves produce gentle heat that penetrates deep body tissue. The doctor or his therapist will first rub a gel on the skin and then rub the ultrasound probe over the painful area using gentle, circular movements. chiropractic marketing ideas The doctor can adjust the frequency of the sound waves according to the patient's amount of sciatic pain.

Chiropractors also use ice or cold therapy for some sciatic pain. By applying an ice pack to the painful area, the doctor can reduce inflammation while numbing the pain at the same time. Chiropractors say this type of treatment works best immediately after the patient experiences severe pain. Massage is sometimes used in conjunction with other treatments. Additionally, when the patient has experienced some relief, many chiropractors will suggest a rehabilitative exercise program to get the person moving again.

Chiropractors say when pain does not subside after several weeks of conservative treatment, the patient's condition requires further investigation. Diagnostic imaging, such as X-ray, CT scan and MRI should be used to rule out conditions other than sciatica chiropractic marketing ideas. The patient might need to include medication and perhaps receive epidural steroid injection in the treatment plan.

    What Is A Chiropractor

A chiropractor is a doctor who treats pain naturally. No drugs or surgeries are involved in this treatment. A chiropractor believes in the natural healing process of the body. According to this doctor, the spine is the center and the most important part of the body. If there is any problem with the spine, the problem is then spread to other parts of the body. This chain reaction of pain travels to various parts of the body which soon starts to feel injured.

Since the treatment method of the chiropractor does not involve the use of any drugs, it makes you save some money as you dont have to make those trips to the pharmacy to buy any medicine. It feels good also to find that no drug is being used to bring relief from pain. Primarily the chiropractor studies the root of the pain. This he does by studying your diet and exercise habits as well as the state of mind you are in.

Any physical stress can throw the body out of alignment. This misalignment causes pain and that is the time we need a chiropractor to fix the pain. chiropractic marketing strategy Many a times, our diet contribute to our painful conditions as well as lack of adequate physical exercise of the joints and muscles. A simple change in diet and lifestyle can have a positive impact on the pain.

Like the Chinese doctors who use acupuncture and acupressure therapies to cure pain, chiropractor doctors use their hands to fix the pain. Both these practices have been in existence for centuries. Sometimes chiropractor doctors more than one method to cure pain. Chiropractic therapy deals with the spine and acupressure therapy deals with the entire body, a combination of both brings about optimal pain relief. And of course, you save money as both are done in the same visit to the doctor.

If you are disappointed with the modern medicines which is bound to the use of drugs, you could try chiropractic therapy for managing your pain. It could give you the much-wanted relief from pain, as it has done to many before you.

Headaches and Chiropractic - Oh, My Aching Head!

My head is killing me!! I have had a dull achy pain in the back of my head for the past two weeks. It is an intense dull ache that just won't go away. The pain gradually gets worse throughout the day as I try to do my work. The pain spreads up the back of my head, around my ears, and even behind my eyes. I have been taking some pain medication, but it never gets rid of it. I will eventually have to find somewhere to lay down so that I don't scream. I don't know what to do to stop this pain."

Every year in the US, there are approximately 45 million people that are dealing with chronic headaches. The most common types of headaches are Tension Type Headaches(TTH), Cervicogenic Headaches, and Migraine Headaches. There are many other types of headaches but only the most common will be discussed in this article.

The head pain story at the beginning of this article is classic for a Tension Type Headache(TTH). TTH comes from muscle tension in the neck area. This tension develops as a result of the prolonged sitting positions that most jobs these days require. The classic example is someone sitting at the computer for hours on end. They are tense from emotional stress and then they start to tense there neck, chest, shoulder, and back muscles as they work. This brings the shoulders and head forward, which further increases the tension of the neck muscles. The symptoms are dull achy head pain with tightness or pressure in the forehead, side, and back of the head. TTH is the most common type of headache experienced by adults affecting 10-65% of the population. According to the International Headache Society, these headaches can last from 30 minutes to 7 days, usually do not include nausea/vomiting but may cause sensitivity to light or noise. These headaches can be very disruptive to a person's daily activities. Treatment of this type of headache usually includes over-the-counter pain medications and rest. The best treatment is to correct the forward head and shoulder posture. Chiropractic adjustments to the upper neck and shoulders can reduce muscular tension in these areas and prevent the problem from turning into a headache.

The second common type of headache is lesser known, but still very common. It is called a Cervicogenic Headache. "Cervicogenic" is defined as from the neck, so Cervicogenic headaches are any headache that can be tied to dysfunction of the joints, muscles, and other structures of the neck. Any irritation, restriction, or lack of motion of the top three vertebra will irritate the spinal nerves that exit the spinal cord at the level of these vertebra. New research has shown that there is a connection between the vertebra, muscles, and the dura mater at the level of the first cervical vertebra. The dura mater is a thick connective tissue that covers the brain and spinal cord chiropractic marketing solutions. Irritation of the dura mater at the C1 vertebra can cause headache pain. These headaches will produce a dull achy pain in the back of the head and neck, as well as pain behind the eyes. The symptoms of Cervicogenic Headaches are very similar to tension type headaches and one can lead to the other. Both can be very debilitating. Cervicogenic headaches respond very well to chiropractic adjustments to the upper cervical spine. Restoring the proper motion of the cervical joints can quickly treat this type of headache.

The last type to be covered is probably the most commonly discussed headache, the Migraine Headache. The cause of this type is constriction (or closing off) of the blood vessels that feed the brain. The decrease in blood flow causes the classic aura symptoms of flashing lights and other visual disturbances. The brain tissue reacts to the decreased blood flow by releasing chemicals that cause the blood vessels to dilate (or to open up). This is like turning on a fire hose and forcing too much blood into the area. This excess of blood creates the deep throbbing pain of the classic migraine headache. The symptoms of a migraine headache are a very intense throbbing pain over the whole head that may be accompanied by irritation from light and sound. These headaches are very disabling. The most common treatment of migraines is with prescription medication. This is effective in some people but these medications tend to have a lot of negative side-effects. Migraines tend to be triggered by various substances that we eat, drink, or inhale, so finding and avoiding these triggers can be very effective. Chiropractic adjustments to the upper spine have been shown to help reduce the intensity and frequency of migraines, without any of the negative side-effects.

Police Chiropractor steals more than quarter million dollars from patients

A chiropractor was arrested Wednesday after police said he stole more than a quarter million dollars from his patients.

So far, eight victims have come forward, but police believe there may be more.

Paulding County Sheriffs deputies charged Dr. Christopher Lockerman, 42, of Lockerman Family Chiropractic in Hiram, with eight counts of financial identity fraud and one count of theft by deception, spokesman Sgt. Brandon Gurley said.

The incidents date back to the early part of 2010, but victims didnt find out and start reporting the matter until two months ago, Sgt. Gurley said.

They were adults of all ages seeking his services. Some were in their 70s, 30s and younger, Sgt. Gurley said.

Detectives began to uncover thousands of dollars that were received from J.P. Morgan Chase Bank through lines of credit established in the names of patients from Lockerman Family Chiropractic, Sgt. Gurley said.

Investigators said Mr. Lockerman would use his patients information, sometimes with their permission, to establish lines of credit with the Chase bank or other financial institutions.

Then he would withdraw money from those accounts without permission, Sgt. Gurley said.

It appears that some of the accounts were opened with the permission of the patient in order to pay for chiropractic services while other accounts were opened in patients names without their knowledge or permission, Commander Maj. Tom Murphy said.

However, Lockerman would withdraw all of the money approved on the line of credit instead of what was agreed on for the chiropractic services.

So if the patients received a line of credit for $10,000 and $5,000 was designated to pay for chiropractic services, Mr. Lockerman would withdraw it all of the $10,000, Sgt. Gurley added.

The patients did not realize that they were a victim of identity fraud until collection agencies began calling to collect debt from the fraudulent accounts.

By then, $264,000 were stolen, Sgt. Gurley said.

Officers arrested the chiropractor at his office, the sergeant said. Mr. Lockerman received a $26,550 bond, Sgt. Gurley said.

    Chiropractor In Poco

Choosing the right chiropractor is a very important decision for your back and neck health. Because of the physical nature of the chiropractic practice there are inherent risks involved with having your spine adjusted. This is one reason you should never attempt to self adjust. Chiropractors are required to complete several years of hands on training as well as thousands of hours of classroom education. While all chiropractors are required to complete this level of education there are still significant differences between the levels of care you may receive from any one chiropractor. It is important that you do your research before you allow any chiropractor to make adjustments to your body. Despite the risks of visiting a bad chiropractor, chiropractic has a tremendous upside if you choose the right doctor. From TMJ, to scoliosis to your every day aches and pains chiropractic can make a significant improvement in your quality of life.

If you are currently considering trying chiropractic there are several ways you can improve your chances of finding a top quality chiropractor rather than a "hack". It is important that you trust your chiropractor and many of today's top chiropractors provide information and support online. Another great tool to use online is social media sites such as facebook or myspace. These types of websites give you the opportunity to see what other patients are saying about your potential chiropractor. If the chiropractor you're researching has many raving fans and no negative posts then you can feel a lot better about trying them as your regular chiropractor. The next step is to find out if the chiropractor has made any contributions to the chiropractic world via articles or educational videos where you can get a better feel for their understanding of the human body and how they can use chiropractic to improve it. When you feel confident enough you can schedule an appointment for a consultation. If after your consultation you feel you trust the chiropractor your journey is done. If not, make your way back to the social media sites of other chiropractors and find another one with positive feedback from their patients. Repeat the same process until all your concerns are addressed and you're on your way to a back pain free future.
